James Connally Golf Course is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Waco, Texas.
The course was designed by Ralph Plummer.
James Connally Golf Course opened in 1955 as a facility of the James Connally Air Force Base. The base was named for a Colonel James T. Connaly who was killed in 1945 in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.
When the base closed in the 1960’s, the State of Texas acquired the property and established a technical school now known as Texas State Technical College (TSTC). For a number of years, TSTC contracted with third parties to manage the golf course, but in 2010, TSTC regained management of the course.
TSTC also utilizes James Connally Golf Course as a lab for students in the Golf Course and Landscape Management (GLM) program. TSTC and James Connally Golf Course are committed to offering customers a reasonably-priced, enjoyable golfing experience in a friendly, relaxed environment.
Connally Golf Course closed after play on July 31, 2015. There are rumors about potential buyers, but nothing concrete. Course management expects a “lengthy financial transition” that could take “months to complete.” Meanwhile the course will remain closed, hopefully to reopen at some future date.
